Catherine Mary LEWIS (known as Kate) b 1886 Wycheproof Victoria d/o Thomas LEWIS/Phoebe Elizabeth SPARK [14925] Catherine Mary CANVERT d 1928 aged 40 yrs Melbourne East d/o Thomas Michael LEWIS/Phoebe Elizabeth Myrtle SPARKS [Vic 6794] A Coroner's Inquest was held into the death of Catherine Mary CANVERT on 14 Jun 1928. The finding was that she died on the 7th of June 1928 at the Victorian Homes Royal Park, having been admitted the previous day from the Melbourne Hospital. Cause of death was a cerebral haemorrhage, partly natural and partly resulting from injury. There was not sufficient evidence to determine how the injury was caused. Catherine Mary CANVERT had been found injured in Curzon Street, North Melbourne on 29 May 1928 and was removed to the Melbourne Hospital. Her residence was 33 Grant Street, East Brunswick. Her husband, Thomas Canvert of 33 Geelong Road Footscray testified that they had been living apart since 1921 and that he had last seen her on the 31 May 1928. The signature of Mary HARPER, Sister, of Italian Gully, appears as the Informant at the birth of Clarence Bernard Raymond Harold LEWIS 12 May 1905 Italian Gully, s/o of Thomas Michael Edmund LEWIS/Phoebe Elizabeth LEWIS formerly SPARK. The midwife was Mrs DALGLEISH. Sometime between 1907 and 1911 this marriage broke up and
by 1911 Catherine Mary HARPER had formed a relationship with Denis KEYS. A death of Bernard HARPER has not been found in Victoria 1906-1985 or NSW 1906-1977.
